Regulatory compliance requirements checklist during construction in Tanzania.
1. Display building permit at site
Keep the approved building permit displayed at the construction site for inspection by municipal officers.
2. Comply with approved drawings
Construct exactly as per approved architectural and structural drawings. Any changes require amended approval.
3. Maintain site safety
Provide personal protective equipment (PPE), safety signage, fire extinguishers and first aid facilities on site.
4. Conduct material quality testing
Test concrete cubes for compressive strength, test steel reinforcement and verify material specifications.
5. Maintain environmental compliance
Implement EIA mitigation measures, manage waste disposal, control dust and noise, and protect surrounding environment.
6. Maintain site records
Keep daily site records including concrete pour logs, inspection reports, material test results and variation orders.
7. Schedule municipal inspections
Contact the municipal council for staged inspections at foundation, structural frame, and completion stages.
8. Comply with NEMC conditions
If EIA was required, comply with all conditions in the EIA certificate including environmental monitoring and reporting.
9. Maintain labour compliance
Ensure workers have valid contracts, proper wages, NSSF registration, and work permits (for expatriate staff).
10. Manage waste properly
Dispose of construction waste at approved sites. Segregate hazardous materials and dispose according to regulations.
11. Obtain completion certificate
Upon completion, obtain a certificate of occupancy or completion certificate from the municipal council.
12. Submit as-built drawings
Prepare and submit as-built drawings to the municipal council showing any changes made during construction.
